Make The Most Of Your Looks

Make The Most Of Your Looks

Having reached my 43rd year, I feel like I’m stuck somewhere between “the hot chick” and the “mature woman”. Although I have been blessed with good genes, aging is inevitable and I have started noticing some changes in my appearance (hey, that didn’t used to look like that! or “when did that happen?”). I don’t know about you, but I have absolutely no interest in any kind of invasive procedures or cosmetic surgery – I plan to age gracefully, but not without a fight. So what else can we do to make the most of our looks and still feel beautiful?

My suggestions:

1. Get a good haircut and color. Find a cut that best suits your face, not to mention a color that enhances your skin tone (especially when you have gray to hide like me). To find your best style, check out some celebrity haircuts.

2. Take care of your skin. You must invest in a good moisturizer! Ask for samples at a specialty store like Sephora or at your local drugstore to find the products best suited to your skin type. Last but not least, don’t leave home without sun screen. Sun is the single worst thing to make your skin look old.

3. Choose the right makeup to enhance your features. I go minimalist – try a tinted moisturizer (with an SPF 20) combined with a light liquid foundation to even out skin tone, add a little blush to cheeks and finish with some mascara.

4. Dress for success. Choose pieces that accentuate your best features rather than trying to hide the ones you like least – I promise you, you’re not fooling anyone when you try to hide under you clothes. Of course, wearing shapewear like ShaToBu can instantly slim and smooth any look and hide imperfections! But most importantly, wear your clothes with confidence – self-assurance is your best accessory.

5. Smile. There is nothing more attractive than a happy person. A true smile can light up your face. If you have to practice, then do it! Take some time during the day to find something to smile about, laugh with friends, read or watch something funny… it’s good for you.

Finally, make peace with your looks – stop being your own worst critic. One of the perks of getting older is that you do become more comfortable in your own skin, which means you also become kinder to yourself. Beauty starts from within… so start believing!
